From a young age, Matt Von was surrounded by the love of music with both his sisters studying music, and Matt himself studying the acoustic guitar at the age of 8. Quickly developing in multiple styles of music, Matt and sister Sarah often would play and write songs together. In 2018, Matt and Sarah officially announced their collaborative sibling duo with their original releases and performing at multiple festivals/events throughout the city of Toronto.
Fast forward to 2020, Matt Von decided to go solo. He blended his pop/acoustic singer-songwriter background with hints of country and folk styles. His music compels listeners to go on an aural journey with his music, captivating audiences with his varied style and organic rawness and thoughtful lyricism, which can be heard in the release of his debut single titled, “Help With Something”. This song which was written for his parents takes you on a lyrically poignant story between that special relationship you have with your family. A bond that is undeniable and unwavering, where the support of your loved ones is what lifts you up at your lowest.
In 2024, Matt has released plenty of new music that he has showcased to the world. His first single release since 2021 is titled “still in my heart.” This is a song written for his mom, who passed away from cancer in April 2023. The message in this song can be of relevance to many listeners and audiences worldwide. Having lost someone so close to you is the most difficult part of life, but always remembering that person is with you no matter how far they may be. Matt’s lyrics are storytelling, and they explain how his mom will forever be in his heart for the rest of his life.
His latest song of 2024 titled “The One for Me”, was written for the love of his life, and for everyone who has found their one true love.
“When going into the studio, I wanted to create something that was not only special and intimate for me, but something that all people could relate to when finding their one true love. Every word sung in this song comes from my soul, and I hope that all of you can hear and feel that. I hope that this song can reach listeners from a variety of audiences, and maybe even could be used for couples' first dance wedding song!”
In November 2024, Matt was chosen as the opening act for Canadian Singer-Songwriter Forest Blakk in Quebec City. He traveled from Toronto to Quebec City with his sister, where they performed original music for a new audience. Von’s first release of 2025 is available now and titled, “My Favorite Place". This is a song that blends the pop and country genre, and captivates listeners from the storyline of each lyric. My Favorite Place explains what that place feels, looks, and sounds to Matt Von.
